Referrals for the 2008 prom season will be accepted starting in January 2008

Referrals can be submitted by teachers, guidance counselors, church
officials or social service agency officials. Please see one of those people
to request a referral to our program.

The Cinderella Project of the Capital Region works with all of the high schools, churches, community agencies and social service agencies in the Capital Region to obtain referrals for eligible girls. Eligible girls are sent personal invitations to one of our  “Boutique Days”, where they can shop for a gown and accessories free of charge.  Students come to Boutique Day to select their prom/formal gowns and celebrate their achievements. With the assistance of a "fairy godmother" each girl selects a gown, shoes, purse and accessories.

The Cinderella Project of the Capital Region sees Boutique Day not as a handout but rather as a way to acknowledge the fact that these students, by staying in school despite hardships, have achieved an important milestone and overcome significant challenges to do so. The students spend the day with positive role models celebrating    their success. Referrals are obtained from guidance counselors, teachers, principals, social workers, members of clergy and other community leaders.  Sophomores, Juniors and Senior girls from Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga and Schenectady Counties and Columbia, Fulton, Greene, Hamilton, Montgomery, Schoharie, Warren and Washington Counties of New York areas are eligible, only if enrolled in school.

"Gowns are only available at our annual Boutiques.  We are not able to provide gowns to any girls at any time other than at the Boutiques.  Please plan accordingly so that you don't miss out on this special event."

Girls: The prom is one of the most memorable nights of your life. It's a milestone, a priceless memory that will last a lifetime. No girl should have to miss her prom due to financial difficulties. That's what we're all about. We have hundreds and hundreds of gowns, many are brand new. We are not a charity, but a way for girls to get what they deserve. All referrals are kept strictly confidential. Referrals can be made by a guidance counselor, teacher, principal, church or civic leader, or social services worker.

We are sorry, but we are unable to accept referrals for freshmen at this time.

If you’re interested in receiving a gown, contact your guidance counselor, teacher, principal, church leader or Social Services representative for a referral.
